My trip to NYC!!

Last Thursday evening (Feb. 27) we were privileged to host the Chi Rho Singers at our church.  They are comprised of about 30 pastors in our conference, which is quite large.  I was THRILLED to sit and enjoy their beautiful songs.  Their very last song was the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah, and they invited anyone from the audience who had ever sung it before to come up and sing with them.  A few of us did.  What a THRILL!!!  I did not take any pictures that evening, but here is one I found on the internet.

When we got home that evening Dick and I were both packing.  On Friday morning when he left for work he had his sleeping bag and some food and clothes packed for the cabin.  He was getting off work early and going directly there. His brothers and some nephews would be there too. 

My bus for NYC was leaving State College at 9 am, but I was there over half an hour early.  The bus was completely full, and we made one ten-minute stop along the way.  As we entered NYC we were in a very long tunnel, and then when we came out of it I took a few pictures. 

Jeremy met me at Port Authority in Manhattan, and we walked quite a few blocks to get the subway.  It was a beautiful day, and I just had to snap pictures as we walked!

They were visiting for the weekend with their friend Katie who used to live in Portland.  She lives in Brooklyn, so it was a long train ride, some of it through a tunnel, to the station a few blocks from her duplex.  

Again we walked!  This is a statue in honor of John F. Kennedy.

Katie's duplex has her kitchen and bedroom on the main floor and then a huge lower floor with living room and a second bedroom.  She has two big boxers, one of them coming down the stairs on the photo below.  

After a few hours of relaxing and catching up and getting dressed up a bit, we went by Uber to Manhattan.  It would have been a lot cheaper to take the subway, but they considered my old feet, and besides, Mike had to be on a work video call, which he was able to do better in a car than in a train.  

It was a LONG drive!  God bless NYC Uber drivers!!  Of course I had to take more pictures out my window!

The Uber took us right to the front of Majestic Theater where we would be seeing Gypsy.  

Jeremy had gotten tickets on the 4th row!!!

The musical was fantastic!!!  Tremendous talent and music and acting and humor.  No picture-taking allowed until the curtain call at the end.  

We reminisced when Jeremy was in a production of Gypsy in 2008 when he was an art institute student in Florida.  I found my pictures of it after I came home on Sunday.  

When we left the show we got an Uber again and headed back to Brooklyn.  We were getting hungry by then, so we went to a little pizza shop close to Katie's place.   The food was authentic and delicious, and we had a lot of fun.  

Jeremy wanted to take a picture of Mike and me across the table.  I didn't know he was snapping pictures before I was ready, lol!

So I took a picture of Katie and Jeremy on the other side of the table.  I loved Katie's coat.  When we were walking through the crowds in the theater and then outside the theater, her coat was so easy to follow!  

It was probably midnight when we got back to Katie's.  It had been a LONG day for me.  I slept very comfortably on the couch.  I think I had a visit from a dog or two during the night, but they just sniffed me and then let me alone.  It was after 8:30 AM when I woke up!  I couldn't believe it!

For brunch we went to a cute little place just a couple of blocks from the subway station. 

It was cute, and the food and service were really good. 

Then we walked to the subway station.  I LOVE these houses!  There are so many of them.  I said, "These are Cosby houses!"  Katie said, "That's what I've heard, but I never saw that show."  Too young, I guess!

One last trip on the subway.  Back to Manhattan.  

Jeremy waited with me till my bus came around 1:45.   It had been a very short time together, but it had been so good!  He's such a loving son and makes me feel so special.  Actually, he makes everyone feel special. 

This time the bus was NOT full.  There might have been all of ten people on it!

I was a happy Mamma.  Traveling by bus is really easy.  I was back in State College before 7 pm.  

On my trip home I saw this picture of his brothers that Dick had posted from the cabin.  He was in his happy place.   

He was already home when I got there.  

On Sunday morning we had church, then I worked on music prep in the afternoon.  Sophie was at an indoor track meet at Clemson, so at 6 pm we watched her 60 meter dash.  

Lisa and George were there too.  

I'm going to finish this post now, because it's long enough.  Hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to write again about this past week.
