It was not quite so fun yesterday when he reached up and grabbed my glasses on purpose! The real fun has begun!
Last week I had time to sit on my side porch a few evenings. I want to hang on to summer with all my heart. I love everything about it, even the heat (probably because everywhere I am is air conditioned.)
Last week there was a marriage challenge going around on Facebook. Thyda tagged me one day. I was supposed to post a picture of Dick and me for seven days in a row and pray for my spouse and our marriage. I don't normally follow rules like that very well. So instead I posted seven pictures all at one time - Dick and I through the decades.

On Friday when I was leaving Anthony and Lori's place I called Dick. He was filling our water jugs at the same shopping plaza where Ollie's is, which is where I was headed. We decided to meet and ended up going to Pizza Hut for dinner. Their senior citizen deal is hard to beat - a personal pan pizza AND a drink for $5.00!
We were intrigued by all the vintage music memorabilia on their walls. ESPECIALLY this 12 string Yamaha guitar - the very same model as Dick's! That was our first major purchase after we got married. $169.00, plus tax, felt like a fortune to us in 1972!
On Saturday morning I took a walk around our house to take a look at our flowers. So often I leave the house in a hurry in the morning, get back later in the day with so many things to carry into the house, and once I'm inside there's much to do and I never go back outside unless I'm leaving to go somewhere else. So I was glad to finally have the time to take a "tour", haha!
In spite of our dreadful heat the past week and our lack of rain, my impatiens are still surviving. Dick does a good job of keeping them watered. Thankfully we've gotten rain a few times the last couple of days.
I think the ragged edges of the lilies is due to the lack of rain.
After our rose bush exploded with blooms in June, they all died at about the same time. So Dick trimmed it back and now it's pushing new growth again and more roses are on their way.
I met Dick at his shop at noon on Saturday and we drove to Lancaster County. Our purpose was to take his Dad and Arlene out to eat for Dad's 91st birthday, but first we stopped at Sam and Jenn's. They were having a family gathering to celebrate her dad's retirement from UPS. Wow! So much good food! And we were going to be going out to eat. What a dilemma!
Her family is so much fun. They always make us feel like part of the gang. Sam and Jenn recently got a big, wrap around sofa, with a huge ottoman - just perfect for a bunch of people to hang out on. As you can see, Bianca had just woken up from her nap when I took this picture and wasn't having any part of all these noisy people that had invaded her space, hahaha!!
As usual, Sam was outside playing with the kids. Sammy and his cousin Chase were having the greatest time on this four wheeler. They are a hoot to watch!
And Arlene is so beautiful in every way, such a blessing to all of us. We figured out that evening that Dad has now been married to Arlene longer than he was married to Ruth, Dick's mother. Ruth died at age 53 just a couple of months before their 33rd anniversary - a terribly sad time in our lives. Dad married Arlene in November 1982, which will be 34 years coming up!

We had a nice drive home that evening.
On Sunday we went to our two churches as usual, in the afternoon I napped first, then stopped in at a baby shower for Pastor Calvin's daughter-in-law. They were playing some really fun games while I was there. Even the gift opening was a game! We had each been given a blank bingo card. In each square we were to write something we thought they would be receiving. As the gifts were opened we could cross off the things we had written down as they were received. Of course the goal was to be the first one who had all their squares crossed off. Really fun!
Sunday evening we went over to Anthony and Lori's. Dick was planning to do something that would fix the fountain in the pond, but as we arrived so did a thunder storm and rain for the rest of the evening. So we had fun inside instead.
We were watching episodes of the Spartan race. Austin loves this stuff, wants to do it all! He keeps trying to arrange things in the living room to jump over, etc. Anthony thinks he's going to have to build an obstacle course for him.
The library is running a reading challenge this summer. Austin had to get his last twenty minutes of reading in to get the reward the next day. It was a book about volcanoes. I learned things I never knew before!
Monday morning dawned hot, humid, and hazy. You could feel the moisture almost dripping from the air.
Of course, I was inside a nice, cool house with this happy boy. He was such a sweetheart! I don't think he cried one time all day. He even woke up happy from both his naps. I was standing at the stove in the kitchen and he was looking up at me smiling. Melt my heart! I'm so in love with him!
When I left their place yesterday another storm was coming, and I drove right into it. I was on a narrow, winding road that use as a short cut sometimes. There are tall, old trees all along the road, and I was praying the entire time that no tree would blow on top of my car! And then suddenly I drove right out of the storm! So crazy!
Yesterday was Lisa and George's 18th wedding anniversary. They met here at Penn State and started dating in the summer of 1995, and got married July 25, 1998. She said yesterday that she figured out that, including the 3 years they dated, she has been with George for half of her 42 years!
I know I've posted this picture many times before, but I love it and all the happy memories from that day.
