Helping Grandpa's move

This afternoon after school I went to Gretna Springs to take pictures of the empty house that my parents just settled on this morning. Then I met Frank so he could have Destiny for the evening, and I went to my parents' house in East Petersburg. The U-Haul was there already, and Mary, my step-mother, had an enormous spread of food ready for all the movers to feast upon. What a fun evening we had! Five of Mary's six sons, along with one of their wives and several of their sons were there. My brother and his wife, my brother's son, Dick and I, and my sister Doris's husband and daughter Gina were there to help load up. Actually, Julie and I were told by Mary that we were supposed to "take care of the men". We got a good laugh out of that, even though we knew she meant we were to serve them their food. The Zimmerman "boys", Mary's sons, are some of the craziest, funniest men I've ever met. They had us laughing all evening long. By around 7 p.m. we were ready to make the 12-mile trip to Gretna Springs to unload the truck. My sisters Mary Ellen and Doris were already there. What a happening place that was for a while, with a constant stream of people carrying stuff into the house, asking Grandma where to take it. Once again, there were more than a few good belly laughs. My parents will sleep in their East Petersburg house tonight, then the men who are helping them in the morning will move their beds, their frig, some things in the garage, etc. And this long anticipated move will finally be over. Ya-hoo!!

Li'l Abner

Last evening I took Destiny to the Parents' Night Out at the Lititz Community Center. I had taken her there the last time they had it, and she loved it. They go swimming in the pool, play games, have snacks, watch a video, etc. While she was there and Dick was at work at Advance, I took my sister Mary Ellen to see Li'l Abner at Elizabethtown High School. One of my former students, Kathy Landis, was in it. It was so much fun watching her having such a great time. It's a really funny musical. Another highlight for me was seeing David Gerhart starring as Abner, and getting to talk to his mother, Donna, during intermission. She and I were very close friends when our children were young. They came to Grace to church for several years and Donna was on the worship team and we were in the same home group. Our hearts were so united in our love for the Lord and for our families and for worship. When Donna had David at home, I was her birth coach. Wow, such good memories. I took my camera so I could take pictures afterward, but we had to leave before it was over so I could pick Destiny up by 10:00.

The presence of the Lord was so real at Grace this morning. It was one of those mornings where the tears freely flowed. I could hardly keep singing sometimes. A number of Sunday School teachers were at a conference yesterday and shared about it this morning. They could hardly talk sometimes as they tried to share what God is doing in and through them. One teacher just led two of her students to accept Jesus into their hearts during class this morning. "God is working, he's still working, God is working even now!" Those are words from an awesome song by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.

I took a good nap this afternoon and we also watched the Stellar awards - Black Gospel music. That was practically another worship service. This evening I want to watch the closing ceremonies of the Olympics. Andrea Boccelli (I don't know how to spell his name) will be singing. His voice is absolutely INCREDIBLE.

Back home again

Well, we're back home again. It wasn't such a tough weather transition today, since it was around 50 degrees this afternoon, not 16 like it was when we left on Tuesday morning.

This evening our school had a roller skating party which we went to. Destiny is getting to be quite good on roller skates, and she had a great time. I am ready for bed. We were up late last night at Lisa's and it was a short night.
