I know I need to write something here, but it's hard to know what to say out of my fractured soul in such a public forum as this blog.
As I plug along through all the things I need to accomplish before Monday, my tears are flowing freely and God and I are having an ongoing conversation. There are many things tearing at my heart, but hearing the news from the oncologist yesterday that my dad's bone scan showed cancer in many of his bones has just undone me. On the way home from the doctor visit my dad said he was hoping he'd be able to get well enough to preach one more time. I asked him what sermon would he preach. He said, "The Wonder of It All." I said, "I remember that sermon. It's the one you preached the last time you were at my church a number of years ago." He said, "I can never stop being amazed at the grace of God."
That is so my dad. He is so in love with the Lord and has been for as long as I can remember. He said last week after his bone scan that as he lay there he just prayed and meditated to get through it. Yesterday he said that he spends most of his time in his bed, because that's where he's most comfortable. We wondered if he'd like a TV in his bedroom. He said he didn't think so - he still enjoys reading and he said he meditates on the Word while he lies there.
I am so challenged by that! Is there any better reason to memorize scripture? What will my thoughts be filled with when all I can do is lie in my bed? Will I have enough of the Word in my heart to fill my mind with it?
The oncologist gave us the go-ahead to get Hospice involved with his care at home to give my precious step mother the help she needs. So tomorrow morning we will be having a meeting with a person from Hospice.
And then there's Destiny. This move is very, very hard for her. Even though we plan to be with her every other weekend, she is so terribly sad. And my heart is just being ripped to pieces.
I feel like I'm at a point in my life where I'm literally needing to put my hands up in complete surrender. I know I have dreadful control issues. I like to be in control of everything I do, plus I like to help the struggling ones by being in control of their problems too. And sometimes (often) I have trouble believing that God can do as good a job of it as I can. How's that for true confession?
All that to say that this last year has put me in a position where I don't feel like I'm in control of anything, and I'm hanging on to God for dear life. It feels horrible, it feels scary, it feels okay.....sometimes. And maybe very occasionally it feels a little bit exciting. Because I know He likes getting me to the point where I need Him so desperately. And I know from Psalm 62:11 & 12 that He is strong and He is loving - two good reasons I can trust Him. Psalm 138: 8 tells me that He will fulfill His purpose for me, and I claim that for all the ones on my heart. Those are just a few of the scriptures that I have been writing all over the place (even on toilet paper!) and putting them at places where I see them throughout the day. Maybe I AM starting to gather my meditations for that future day.
On a much happier note, Dick is doing tremendously well at his job and is making a quite an impression on the management there. It must be a breath of fresh air for them to have an employee with the experience he has, plus the work ethic and attitude he has. Go, Dick!
And please don't think that I'm not remembering that next week at this time I'll be living in the same house as, and caring for, the most precious grandson in the world. I know he will be a good healer for me.

Oh Jean, I'm crying over here with you. This post just touches me so, because I would be having those same emotions, right down to the control issue! I'll be praying for you, Destiny and your Dad.
Yes - Austin will be great medicine!
My dear friend,
Everything that you are feeling is just what you should be feeling. The things you have done and the life you have lead has all combined to make you the person you are today. And what you feel, is what you feel. It is not 'good' or 'bad' it just 'is'. So don't apologize for that. God knows how you feel, and of all the souls in this world, He understands the most.
I, too, am a control person. I just KNOW that if everyone would listen to ME, the world would go smoother and everyone would be happier. And the little bluebirds would sing and all the flowers would bloom. But, they don't all listen to me...as hard as I tell them to. Perhaps they know what I often forget...God is the only one who should guide our lives, and HE is the one we should listen to. I know that, too. But, Oh, how hard it is in times like these.
I am so sorry that your Dad has to face the future with this diagnosis. But, it sounds like he is fully prepared and has all the 'armour' that he needs. Have you thought of getting the Bible on CD? It is not expensive, we have it for Alex. Then he can listen to the Word when he doesn't feel like reading. I go into Alex's room sometimes, and he is sleeping, but the Word is playing still in his room and it gives me great pece to know that even in sleep, his subconcious is heaaring from our sweet Lord.
God bless you, Jean. And, I did not intend to write you a book. Sorry. But, feel completely the things you feel...and let it soak in and then let God tell you what He is going to do to help you.
"Because of God's great love, WE ARE NOT CONSUMED, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!." Lamentations 3: 22-23.
You are in my heart and my prayer is for peace.

Soo sorry to hear about this terrible news. Praying for you and your family to get through day to day. One of my favorite scriptures is "I can do all things through him that strengthens me" Phil 4:13. Also, I love the song from Steven Curtis Chapman "Be Still". The lyrics
Come rest your head upon his breast
Listen to the rhythm of his unfailing heart of love
Beating for his little ones
Calling each of us to come
Be still, be still.
Praying for the many decisions ahead, the move and for you to be able to surrender all to the Lord.
Hi sweet friend!
I'm a control freak myself so I understand. You have a lot on your plate right now....some wonderful, some sad, some happy, some joyful, some scary. But you also have our awesome God walking right beside you. You are not alone...not for one single second. And He knows what's in your heart. He knows what is needed...and when.
I learned about the book Hearing Jesus Speak Into Your Sorrow by Nancy Guthrie on another blog.
Here is the portion of the book I want to share with you:
"What we need most is not to hear God say yes to our requests. What we need is to be filled with such deep confidence in the character of our Father that when he says no we know he is doing what is right and good for us. What we need most is the faith to trust him.
Some claim that strong faith is defined by throwing our energies into begging God for a miracle that will take away our suffering and then believing without doubting that he will do it. But faith is not measured by our ability to manipulate God to get what we want; it is measured by our willingness to submit to what he wants.
It takes great faith to say to God, "Even if you don’t heal me or the one I love, even if you don’t change my circumstances, even if you don’t restore this relationship, even if you allow me to lose what is most precious to me, I will still love you and obey you and believe that you are good. And I believe that you, as my loving Father, will use everything in my life — even the hard and hurtful things — for my ultimate good and your eternal glory because you love me."
As we bring our wants and pour them out before our Father, he gives us the courage we need to surrender, so we can say along with Jesus, ‘I want your will to be done, not mine.'
And he gives us the grace we need to say it not through gritted teeth but with open hands."
Jean, I'm praying for you. Please know that you are and will be in the thoughts and prayers of many. I can tell you with absolute conviction that you are not now nor will you be alone while going through this. The world is full of beauty and magic and healing grace and I have every confidence that you will be as blessed as you have blessed others.
Hugs!
Kat
Looks like many others have left you words of comfort and wisdom.
My mom said many times when she was going through a tough time that Adeline (and now Camille) was her therapy. Amazing how God uses those little people to heal many wounds.
I am so sorry to hear about your Dad jean. I know he has a heart for god And the Lord is sure with him during this time. Yes your grandson will be wonderful to have around at this time. It will be a healing time as well. God has it under control, he knew the best timing.
Jean,
Just catching up on your posts and my heart is breaking along with yours in regards to the news about your Dad, as well as leaving Destiny.
I have no other words of advice that the B club girls have not already left, even their comments have me crying!
Good grief.
You are loved and prayed for--just want you to know!
