Dippy Eggs

Okay, here are the promised pictures of "dippy eggs!" In my previous post I mentioned that I made Destiny French toast instead of her normal dippy eggs for breakfast. Tonja said she never heard of dippy eggs. Well, Tonja, they are just your regular "over easy" or "over light" eggs. What makes them "dippy" is the cutting of the toast into little strips so they can be dipped into the egg yolk. Yummm!! When the yolk is all dipped up, you cut the white into pieces and eat that too. Unless you are like I was as a child. I would never eat the white part. I'm surprised my mother allowed me to get away with that!

Anyone hungry? Come on over and I'll make you a dippy egg or French toast or whatever you order! My house is quite clean and organized and the weather is gorgeous enough to eat on the porch or the deck. The coffee is ready too and my Pandora radio channel is playing some good. gentle Fernando Orgega-type music to add to the ambiance. But call first - I'm still in my night shirt, ha, ha!!

Now the way I eat "dippy" eggs is to cut off the white around the yolk and eat that first. Then start dipping buttered toast into the yolk.

Making me hungry! I'll be right over for brunch!

Your house is all cleaned up? Oh, I am so jealous! I have paint cloths, ladders, and cans of paint everywhere. Alan is coming home at noon to replace the padding on the stairs so we can replace the carpet.

So those are Pennsylvania Dippy Eggs! The Ohio version of Dippy Eggs is soft boiled eggs, cut off one end to make a hole, place in egg holder, draw a face with marker on the egg, cut strips of toast, and dip the toast in the hole. ENJOY! (and smile while eating at the face on the egg)

What a wonderful invitation - if only I lived closer. Those dippy eggs sound good - I'll have to make my own!

I've grown up calling them dippy eggs too, except sometimes we just cut the over-easy egg up as well as the toast and eat it out of a bowl. Sort of a chopped up "egg in a nest".

When I'm feeling especially domestic I use a large round cookie cutter to make a hole in a piece of bread for the egg and the whole thing gets buttered and fried. I always have to have extra toast on the side though.

YUM! I could go for something eggy right now. (This baby has me craving protein something fierce!)

OOOHHHH! You mean 'runny eggs'! That is my favorite way to eat them, too. There is nothing better than using some buttered toast to dip up the yolk! Nothing finer! And, maybe, in your honor, I'll just start calling them 'dippy eggs'. It does sound better than runny! Thanks for the lesson, Jean!
