Prophet or Rebel?

PROPHET OR REBEL?

As a preschooler in the 1950's, an afternoon nap was a requirement for me, probably for my dear mother's sanity. By the time I was three-and-a-half, I had two baby sisters, Doris and Barb. The older I became, the harder it was to fall asleep during those naps, so I would need to come up with things to entertain myself.

One particular afternoon I was taking my nap in my brother's bedroom, probably because Doris was taking hers in the "girls'" room.) I found a Bible, which I could not read, and I don't recall that it had any pictures either. But I did discover that it was easy to tear the pages out, and it made a rather delightful sound. So I proceeded to tear the pages out, one by one, stuffing each one carefully behind my brother's bed. Eventually my conscience got the better of me, and I decided I'd better stop. I put the Bible back where it had been and never said a word about it.

Sometime later, how long I do not remember, the torn out pages were found so carefully stuffed behind that bed. I was sternly scolded and questioned as to WHY I had done such a thing. I really had no idea why I had done it, but this is what came out of my mouth: "So that when Daddy becomes a preacher he can't read those pages."

My dad was not a preacher at that time, but when I was nine years old, he was ordained as the pastor of our church. So I have often wondered, was I a little prophet or a little rebel????

Definitely PROPHET!!! And every prophet I know had their rebel streak. So- yes, probably some of both!

I agree with Maryann...maybe a little of both, which I personally think is a good combination.

That is such a funny story. I love it!

This is so weird, but I did the same thing with my first grade annual! :-) I remember crawling behind the couch in our little, LITTLE den and just getting SUCH SATISFACTION from doing that for some reason! But you can imagine who was neither pleased NOR amused...MY MOM! :-) Needless to say, I did not get an annual in second grade and when I see them all lined up on my shelf now, I ALWAYS remember why I don't have one for second grade! I wish she would have let me get one and just put it out of reach for a while, but who am I??? :-)

that is too funny! My mom would say, "Be sure your sins will find you out!"

Cute story! You definitely had good parents who knew the Lord and you took it all in. I don't think you have a thread of a rebel in you. I think that you were always a busy little girl and you still are.

Actually, Cheryl, I'm afraid my dad would have to differ with you! He says I "stretched" him when I was a teenager! I really did not rebel against the Lord, but against religious things that made no sense to me.

Cute story! Our 2 year old tore out some pages in a small Gideon personal testimony...hmmm, what should I be concerned about? :)
