Our week days at Destiny's, part one

Wow, it's hard doing these blog posts about our trip.  I want to be holding this precious baby instead!!!! 

On Monday morning Dick and I took Elizer to school.  I don't remember what we did during the school day besides holding Ketzi. Actually, I think I was doing Elizer's laundry and reorganizing his clothing drawers. 

We did some research on barber shops, and Destiny found one that was perfect about 15 minutes away.  After school Dick and I took Elizer there.  It was a corner Mexican barber shop with six barbers working, everyone talking Spanish and laughing - a really fun atmosphere!  They immediately took Elizer, and we showed the barber pictures Destiny had sent us on Dick's phone.  He did not understand English, we do not understand Spanish, but we communicated with those pictures and a text message Destiny sent us in Spanish.  Elizer sat there like a brave little man the whole time.  

He was so happy with his new haircut, and we let him give the barber the money for it.  He said, "Haircuts aren't scary anymore!"  Destiny will definitely be taking him there again. 

 We made burgers for dinner, then watched "Groundhog Day" since it was in fact Groundhog Day!  They had never seen the movie before.

More baby loving on Tuesday after taking Elizer to school!!  Oh that soft, kissable face!!!  I just can't stand it!

We went on a little "field trip" with Destiny and Ozzy to a Mexican bakery they really love.  Oh, the aroma when we walked in!  And the tremendous variety of baked goods!  I could see many more on racks in a back room.  Destiny said they sell out every day!  Of course we helped them out a bit!  So hard to choose!

We got back home just in time to meet Elizer at his bus stop nearby.  For dinner I made a favorite Hello Fresh recipe that Destiny had first made when they lived with us several years ago.  When I had asked her if I should bring any recipes along, this was the only one she wanted.  Creamy Lemon Spinach Ricotta Ravioli.  Here's the picture on the recipe card compared to my real-life dish.  Somehow I can never get it to look like the picture, but tastes good anyway!

Wednesday was a pretty laid back day.  

When Elizer gets home from school he can hardly wait to go to his room to play video games with his daddy.  Alex and Destiny got him a game system for Christmas.  So they play their video games together across the many, many miles and talk on the phone as they're playing.  I love the connection, but I'm concerned about the violence in the games, which seems to be typical.  Alex also reads books to him over the phone sometimes before Elizer goes to sleep.  So precious.  

Thankfully Elizer also loves to color, which he and I did together sometimes.  

I made meatballs for dinner.  Destiny didn't have any spaghetti noodles, so we used bowtie pasta instead.  Still delicious with the Rao sauce!

I chose Elizer's big brother shirt on Thursday for him to wear to school.  Always a clown!

More baby holding!  

She had a two-week doctor appointment that day and she is already a little more than a pound above her birth rate!

I made Ginger Sweet Potato Lentil Stew in the afternoon for us to have later.  We had a big field trip to go on!  Just a few blocks from their house is the Children's Museum of Indianapolis.  It would normally be quite expensive for all of us to go there, but Destiny discovered that on the first Thursday of each month there is an amazing discount if you go from 4:00 and 8:00 pm.   We took Ozzy's younger brother along, and it was only $36 for ALL of us!!! 

It is four stories of SO MANY interesting things.   The entrance is on the bottom floor.  You could easily spend an entire day there.  We definitely got our steps in that day!  

Destiny and Ozzy taking a break from the walking.  This was a pretty big undertaking just two weeks after giving birth.  But she's strong and healthy!

On the very top floor is the carousel.  We got the boys on it just in the nick of time! 

The stew was waiting for us when we got home.  Elizer didn't want that so I made him some chicken nuggets from the freezer, and he also ate a whole apple.  He loves apples.  It was hard to get him settled.  He was fussing about his belly hurting.  I got myself settled on my bunk under his and then.....  Here's what I wrote on my Facebook the next morning, although I took it down because I didn't feel like reading all the comments about it.  

"Last night after we were all settled and I was trying to fall asleep, Elizer started crying, then coughing, then THROWING UP!!  I seriously did not know where to even start.  His bed is piled with pillows and stuffed animals and blankets.  I had to somehow help him down the ladder while he was covered in chunky vomit and crying in his sleep.  

Destiny heard the commotion and came over to help.  Some of it had fallen down onto my bed.  After about half an hour of cleaning up the boy, removing the bedding, throwing things into the washer (which thankfully is right next to the bathroom), and putting a blanket on my bed for us to lie down on, Elizer and I settled down together.  

For maybe half an hour when it started again!!!  I yanked him out of my bed so fast it all landed on the carpeted floor.  Once again Destiny heard the commotion and came over to help.  And once again we cleaned him up, I cleaned up the bedroom floor, made a place for us to lie down, and tried to go to sleep.  It was after midnight by this time. 

He cried and moaned again sometime later, and I grabbed the container we had ready.  But he settled down without further ado.  

He's staying home from school today.  I'm not at all sure how my stomach feels this morning. 

Here's the kicker:  Dick, sleeping on the air mattress right there in the same room, was completely unaware of it all.  How????"

Ok.  This is already way too long.  So I'll do another post about our last day and our trip home. Oh, and by the way, no one else got sick!!  I guess is was not a stomach virus, but too much food too late.
