Destiny had good times with our neighbor girls the second half of her week here. On Wednesday afternoon the girls were here, on Thursday she went to the pool with them while I was at work, and on Friday she went with them to Lakemont Park in Altoona.
On Friday evening Austin came for a "sleepover." Destiny's schedule and his are like two different time zones! I was awake until after midnight with Destiny, and Austin was awake by 6:00 in the morning!
Later in the morning we made Nutella pancakes for brunch and ate them with strawberry topping. Yummm!
In the afternoon we took them to see the movie Inside Out. It's a really cute movie about a little girl whose family moved across the country for her dad's job. It personalizes her emotions as "people" inside her brain.
It was a very rainy, dreary day - not at all what we were wanting for July 4th. But there are always things to do inside with a little imagination. Austin and Grandpa were "bowling" with the tiniest bowling pins you've ever seen and a tennis ball!
The weather cleared a bit for the evening. We and Anthony and Lori went to the 4th Fest near Beaver Stadium for a while.
We watched a WILD BMX stunt show. These guys did the most amazingly dangerous things!! As we walked away, Austin was WIRED and ready to climb every light pole he saw! Destiny said, "I fear for his life right now!" Hahahaha!
We did not stay to watch the fireworks because we knew we would see even better ones the next day.
On Sunday morning we went to our two churches. I knew I would be short a few sopranos in the Fillmore Choir, so I had practiced our song with Destiny the day before, and she sang with us! She also sang a song for the offertory at both churches. I'm so glad she loves to sing. I wish she would sing in the chorus at school, but it seems that there are so many other electives that she would have to give up in order to be in it.
On Sunday afternoon we drove to Longs Park in Lancaster for our very favorite July 4th tradition - a patriotic concert by an army band followed by fireworks. For 35 years the tradition included a rendition of the 1812 Overture, complete with live cannons. This, however, was the last year for the cannons. The man who owns them is getting older, and it's a tremendous amount of work to set them up. They had a very touching tribute for him on Sunday evening.

The fireworks show that followed was, without question, the most spectacular EVER!! I'm sure the fireworks can be enjoyed from many places outside the park, but there is just nothing to compare with the thrill of sitting right underneath them. We have not missed very many years of this show since we first went in 1986 with our children. We are hooked!

We went to Sam and Jenn's for the night. Of course the children were already asleep when we got there. We were more than ready for bed.
Dick took a vacation day on Monday. Jenn had the day off work too, but Sam did not. I got this sweet picture of him with Bianca before he left.
Sammy is really into "learning" with his new activity books. He wondered if I want to learn too. (-:
Eventually Destiny got up for her breakfast (I had made French toast and sausage.)
Dick's project for the day was fixing Sam's riding mower. Mission accomplished!
We left for home late afternoon and were home by 8 PM.

What a fun weekend you all had! It's so neat that Destiny sang with you. That musical talent is all through the family - including Sammy. :) He's so cute.

I wondered if you would get to Long's Park this year. That was some show. We didn't think we would see any fireworks this year since we didn't go to the fairgrounds, but some neighbor's grandson put on a show right in front of our house so we didn't miss seeing them this year.
And most of this happened a week ago....oh my, time is moving along too fast!! But, then again, next week is our sister time and for that I'm all for a hurry up and get here :))
