This morning I decided to go for a walk before I did anything else. As it happened, Austin was awake already, so I put him in his jogging buggy, and away we went. He LOVES being outdoors. My feet wore out long before his contentment did.
This afternoon I needed to get some things at WalMart. What a crazy day to be there, and what memories it brought back to me. The place was crawling with college kids and their parents getting those last minute things for dorm rooms and apartments. How well I remembered being at this very same WalMart doing the very same thing several years in a row. I overheard a girl calling her mom on her cell phone, saying, "Mom, I put some more things on that credit card, because my account is empty till I get that job." I thanked the Lord that I was not that mother!
Driving in downtown State College was NUTS on the way home. In addition to all the kids moving into town, one of the main streets is under construction! And to top it off, there was an accident tying things up. I was glad to finally get home and do something mundane like making a big pot of spaghetti sauce.

I remember taking Donna to that same WalMart when I took her up to State College back in 1994. It was mobbed!
Donna did her last 2 years of college there. She was a meteorology major and there were no schools in Georgia offering that major. I had taken her up to see the school on her spring break and there was still snow on the ground when we got there. I have a picture somewhere of her making a snow angel - something she couldn't do in Georgia. She fell in love with the campus and I knew we'd be sending her up there in the fall. I stayed with her for a week to help her get settled (she had a room in a rooming house) and when I left, I cried all the way back to Harrisburg where I was meeting Dom so he could drive home with me.
Penn State is a beautiful school and State College is such a lovely little town.
1994??? That's the year we first brought Lisa here!! How crazy is that? Maybe we saw each other at WalMart, ha, ha, ha!!!

I have followed his blog for several years.
I enjoyed catching up on your site - I was behind in catching up on my non-Xanga friends. :)
Oh, wow! I identified with the emotion of having a father with cancer, Hospice, and everything that goes with it.
I cannot identify with moving, because we have lived here forty-two years which is most of our married life. Our forty-sixth is in a few weeks.
