This was a very special July 4th for us. The weather wasn't what we ordered, but at least the rain wasn't heavy most of the time. We had a cook out at my parents' place with my other siblings who still live here in Lancaster County.
The thing that made this day unusual was the surprise my brother Dick had for my dad - a very special Oliver diesel tractor. He brought it to my parents' community on his tow truck, then drove it up to my parents' house with his wife Nancy standing behind him. I bet more than a few people popped their heads out to see what that noisy thing was coming up the street! But no one was more surprised than my dad!
That day has come in 2008. The tractor is restored, almost shinier than new, and today it brought great joy once again to our family, especially father and son.

I have a couple of brothers who would love that story. They love tractors and they have one they have restored. They have some pretty hilarious stories about them that they tell and we howl with laughter when they share them. So, I can just imagine the joy that was in your dad's heart when he saw his same old tractor restored.

A word of clarification. Dick bought the tractor not knowing it was Dad's, but knew it was one like his. After buying it he went to the store where it was purchased and verified it was the SAME one! What joy. Dick just finished restoring the tractor this month, a dream of his all these years since 1988. Mary Ellen
Wow Jean! What an amazing story! That should be something on the news or in the newspaper. You might contact your local paper and see if they'e interested. And you already have pictures! I know your Dad was thrilled to death. What a wonderful thing for your brother and his wife to do.
BTW...your step-mother's cactus is absolutely gorgeous. I've never seen anything like it. Ever. Can't wait to show my Mom...she's coming here on Monday. And it was cool to see she just planted it in a tin can...no fancy planter needed to make it bloom.

How cool is that!!! I bet your dad was beside himself! What a super, kind thing to do! And, all the memories it rminded you all of had to be so special. I can imagine that was one of the best gifts your dad has ever recieved!
