Today was more like a Saturday for me, because I had so much catching up to do after being away Friday and Saturday - the everlasting bookwork and bills, groceries, the kitchen sink (my little dishwasher had not kept up while I was away, ha, ha!!) She and I were still in our night shirts at 2:00 this afternoon and didn't leave for the gym until 5:00.
There are two things that I have been trying to remember to do for several months and NEVER could remember. The one is taking my own magazine along to the gym and the other is taking the reusable grocery bags along into the grocery store.
Since I can no longer use the treadmill (because of my foot) with its private TV that made the time go by so fast, I have had to resort to reading while I'm on the elliptical. The magazines at the gym are so outdated, but I have read them anyway just to pass the time. I even read up on the Rotary Club in South Korea. Did you know that the head of the Rotary International is from South Korea? Well I do! Anyway, today I FINALLY remembered to bring my own magazine for the very first time. Yea, me!
And about those reusable grocery bags. A few months ago I bought three of them for 99 cents each. I felt so good about myself for being so ecologically savvy. But do you think I can EVER remember to take them to the store? At first I kept them in the trunk. Bad idea. Out of sight, out of mind. So I moved them to the floor of the passenger side of my car. Still no luck. Frequently I have actually reached down and put them on the passenger seat as I was driving to the store so that I would notice them when I reached for my purse. Still no luck. Until this evening. I had just walked into the store when I saw a display of reusable bags for sale. I remembered my bags and walked right back out to my car to get them. Wow!! I remembered a magazine AND my grocery bags all on the same day! But unfortunately, my purse ended up being on top of those bags in my grocery cart and I never noticed them until I was ready to pay. The speedy cashier had already bagged up all my stuff into plastic bags. Well, it was at least one step closer, right?

Oh Jean, I do exactly the same thing. I keep forgetting my bags every single time I run in the grocery store. I get so made at myself. Our store offers them in bright green and black. I should have bought the green ones because the black doesn't stand out and I leave them behind. Bad me! I must be better about this.

I'm doing OK remembering them when I go in Kroger's or Publix. But I always forget to take them into Walmart. I have about 10 of them in the back of the car.
When I DO use them, I always put them at the front of the food on the belt when I'm checking out.

I too forget to use my bags unless I'm going to ALDI's prior to finishing somewhere else. Then I'm all prepared: cold item bags and my bright green sturdy mesh bags from Klein's (in MD). I like them b/c they are so much bigger and sturdier than what most stores offer.
Pete's always the one to remember to take in the plastic ones we've set aside.
Did you know that in some major US cities they've done away with plastic bags altogether? They now make you pay for the plastic bags or make you bring your own exclusively?
My big thing (aka recycling peeve) is all the plastic water bottles that get thrown away. Nalgene bottles or bottles made to go through the dishwasher are the way to go!
This was funny! I used to have canvas grocery bags. I kept using them for hauling books out of the library or taking things to the beach... They are really sturdy bags! Now I use the plastic grocery bags as liners for the small trash cans, so I am at least recycling them! I'm glad you remembered the magazines, too, but I'm esp. proud of you for remembering to work out!
only thing with those bags with families of 6 it would take tons of bags just to put the groceries in. My daughter has four children and the groceries they buy. It might take all day just to pack and unpack. lol. I guess i think on the negitive side a little to much but that is a fact. And then I guess they would have to be washed sometime as well. I know plastic is not so good so I guess putting up with the cloth is o.k.
