So today we practiced with the new sound set-up for the first time. Things did not go perfectly, but it could have been a lot worse. With Dick there tomorrow to tweak some things, etc. we should be okay.

I went to the foot specialist right after school. As I expected he diagnosed me with plantar fasciitis. You can read about it here. I'm sure I probably injured it from overdoing it on the treadmill back in January. It just makes me so mad. I LOVED working out on the treadmill. I felt so energized and healthy. I know I need to use the elliptical instead, but I just hate it. But then my crazy schedule the last few weeks hasn't lended itself to any kind of exercise routine.

Anyway, the doctor gave me a corisone shot as I expected, told me to double the pain med I take regularly for my shoulder, and THEN he taped up my foot!!!! I said, "How's this going to look tomorrow?" He said, "Well, what will you be wearing? Socks?" I said, "No, pantihose and a skirt." And he proceeded with the taping.
There is no question, the cortisone shot has already helped. I was at school getting everything set up, walking back and forth between my room, the stage, the office numerous times and my heel was not bothering me much at all! But the tape job feels so terribly tight. And it looks horrible. What am I going to do?
Wear these shoes? Dick said I should have told him to tape the other foot too so they look alike.
I certainly can't wear these!

I'm going to go sleep on it. Which reminds me - next week he's giving me a splint to wear at night. Something about pulling my toes up or something. He said it will be uncomfortable, but when it starts to feel better, they readjust it to pull the toes up even more. Now THAT's something to look forward to.

Jean - I've had the same problem with my foot. I've never gone the cortisone shot route, but I've been taped and have used the night splint. The one I had was like a big boot - uncomfortable but it really helped. I also have orthotics to wear in my shoes, and I wear Birkenstocks most of the time.

Don't worry about how the taped foot looks - just be comfortable and know that it's going to take away the pain and heal the foot.

Because you put on such good programs, I don't think anyone will be looking at your foot. When the lights are low and the music is high, no one will ever notice.

Take care, my friend! I hope your foot heals soon.

I agree with Cheryl...just "do your thing". You always look good, but hopefully everyone will be watching the kids perform.

My aunt went through the very same things you are. Shots, taping and the foot device and some exercises. It all really works so hang in there.

Hugs!

Next time tell the doctor you want flesh colored tape, and it wouldn't be so noticable! Surely someone much have invented that?
And I agree with the others, we won't be looking at your feet, we'll be enjoying the good music and watching all the performers and your energetic direcing of it all. Only when you are on stage will we notice that foot!! I'll be sure to look for it!! MEW

I've had that before too and it is really painful. You need to keep it taped - it helps support the fascia and will make it get better quicker!
