Don't you just love it when you have something on your grocery list that you just cannot find anywhere in the whole, entire, humongous store? Every once in a while I buy coffee stirrers, a pack for here at home and a pack for the staff room at school. At neither place are they absolutely essential, but I just like the idea of using them instead of dirtying a spoon every time coffee needs to be stirred. However, finding them in a store can be like a scavenger hunt!Last Sunday evening Dick and I stopped at a big supermarket after taking Destiny back home. Coffee stirrers were on my list. We looked for them in the coffee aisle. The guy stocking shelves told us to check the paper supply aisle. Once there the shelf stocker told us they are in the coffee aisle. In each aisle the shelf stocker declared he had never seen coffee stirrers in his aisle. So we left without them.
Last evening I went to our local, recently renovated supermarket. Once again I searched for the elusive coffee stirrers. This time I did actually find them, but not in the coffee or the paper supply aisle. (My feet were especially painful last evening after having worn dress shoes in the morning, so much so that I looked
longingly at one of the motorized carts when I walked in!) After I finally found everything on my list I had one more thing on my mind - my favorite new snack - Quaker Quakes. I looked for them in the bread aisle where I remembered finding them once before. No luck. So I slowly, painfully made my way to the huge snack aisle. No luck. Then on to the cereal aisle (they are rice cakes). No luck. So I decided to forget it. A teenage girl was my check out person. I asked her if she knew where they might be. She had no idea what I was talking about, and she didn't try to figure it out either. I was starting to feel quite irritated, so just before paying I asked, "Do you think there's anyone here who would know which aisle they're in?" She said, "What are they again?" So I proceeded to try to describe them. Once again she said she had never heard of them and did not offer to ask anyone else. I was absolutely irritated by then, so I paid quickly and left. In my mind I was already writing a letter to management .After I got home and we began having our very late birthday celebration for Dick we couldn't find the candles I had just bought. This morning I noticed a few more things I couldn't find, including my coffee stirrers!! I realized that in my angry exit from the grocery store, I had apparently left a bag behind.
So late this afternoon I went back to that grocery store, receipt in hand, expecting to find my bag of items at the service desk. They believed my story, but my things had already been put back on the shelves. So off I went to find them, once again trying to remember which aisle had the coffee stirrers, and once again having painful feet because of having worn dress shoes for hours today. After I rounded up my missing items and brought them to the service desk to be reconciled with my receipt, I decided to try my luck and ask this guy if he knew where the Quaker Quakes are. He said they're in the bread aisle. I told him I had looked there last evening, but had not seen them and that my feet are hurting so badly I'm not going to bother walking over there to look for them again. He kindly offered to go look. He came back empty handed and said, "I don't see any over there. I'm going to predict that we're out of them right now."
I left the store and could not help laughing in spite of my frustration. Predict???? Isn't that what you do when you project something that will take place in the future?? He's predicting that they are currently out of my Quaker Quakes? Where, oh where are the customer service people with brains and manners?
Man, I surely could eat a bag of those things right now.

I have some of the rice cakes if you want to come down and get some. I keep thinking I'll buy stirrers for that exact reason, but after that story I think I'll stop before I start. I predict I would get frustrated.
This post had me laughing and frustrated with you all at the same time.
I hate going in a store looking for something special and having to get in the mindset of the store management to realize where they might have placed the item. Frustrating! Which aisle had the coffee stirrers?
And I hate stores that have no "customer service."
I thoroughly understand your experience at the grocery. The kids who are the cashiers are not helpful, and they are rude. The generation of kids who are out there today are scary! That is why I usually go out the self check out then I don't have to deal with them.
Hope you find your snack!
You poor thing! I sympathize with your aching feet and not wanting to trapse around the store. Nothing in that store is where it used to or should be! Anyway, I'm with you, there is no customer service anymore, especially where there is a teen involved.
Forgive me for laughing at your frustration. I cannot believe that someone wouldn't try harder to find them for you. At our store the rice cakes are in the aisle with crackers and cookies. I hope you find them next time. Barb
oh where, oh where did my comment go?!! I wrote something, made changes and it dissappeared............I'm too tired to write it again and besides I'm doing this with out reading glasses which is a huge strain for my eyes. SO, if my comment does not show up I guess I know it's for me to know and you to find out ~ maybe!

I know of a lady who stopped by the store to pick up a few items one night and when she finally made it up to the checkout girl, she was dismayed to see that some of her items were not priced. She was highly embarressed when the checker got on the intercomm and boomed out for all to hear."PRICE CHECK ON LANE 13. TAMPAX SUPER SIZE." That would certainly be humiliation enough, don't you think? But, not so. The young gentleman who answered back misunderstood the word 'tampax' and thought the checker said 'thumbtacks'. So, in a very business like voice he boomed back over the intercom,"WOULD YOU LIKE THE KIND YOU PUSH IN WITH YOUR THUMB OR THE ONES YOU POUND IN WITH A HAMMER?".
Pretty good customer service there, huh?

Oh my word, Tonja! It's a good thing I don't have to pee right now - I would certainly be having an accident!!! That story is the funniest EVER!!
And, Doris, if your comment was to tell me which aisle those Quaker Quakes are in at Weis Markets, PLEASE rewrite your comment!
Nope that wasn't it! Never had them so I wouldn't know what I'm looking for.............besides, I don't know where everything is since they rearranged things. I have gone to customer service many times to ask where they have hidden things in need.
Oh, what a funny story Tonja tells.............excuse me, I am in need of a certain small room NOW!!

Jean, I checked the directory list that I picked up a couple weeks ago. It predicts they would be in isle 15. I think that is where the crackers, etc. are across from juices. 90 degree angle from the bread shelves. Hope that helps! Ha ha!
Jeanie, your blog and the comments, esp. the Kotex one, had me laughing and laughing. Was good to see I'm not the only one who buys coffee stirring sticks - and yes, sometimes they are hard to find. As to the Quaker Quakes - I never heard of them (I guess I miss too many TV commercials) until Curves gave us members a bag of goodies - which included these Quaker Quakes. I didn't like them enough to want to buy any. Mary Ellen
Oh how funny !
I had to think of you yesterday when I was at our Foodland Fresh, and saw the Quaker Quakes on the shelf in the aisle where the pop corn was. I thought they were close to the bread shelf myself.
