All day yesterday my mind was thinking about my brother-in-law's surgery. After school I found out that he had been third on his surgeon's schedule, and since the first one took longer than expected, Elvin's got postponed until today. When Elvin's daughter Lori, who lives in Michigan, realized that, she made a quick decision to drive to Lancaster. She left home at 4:00 yesterday afternoon and arrived in Lancaster at 1:00 AM! What a brave girl she is. Elvin's son Scott is also here from California. He had been at a conference in Washington DC last week and has stayed over. And of course Pauline has been constantly by his side since he was hospitalized for the cath last Wednesday.
So Elvin's surgery started at 8:00 AM this morning and lasted until 2:00 this afternoon. They did SIX bypasses! Just unbelieveable after the extremely healthy lifestyle Elvin has been living. I guess heredity is a dreadfully strong force.
This evening my sister Mary Ellen and I went to the hospital. We did not see Elvin. He's in the intensive care unit and in very, very much pain. Mary Ellen and I talked for a while with Scott and Lori in the waiting room.
Lori was telling us some funny stories from her wedding in December. Obviously her name was Lori Peifer originally. When she got married in 1988 she became Lori Harris. (Sadly, that marriage ended in a very painful divorce.) This past December she got married to Jim PEIFER!! (Don't worry - they're not related!) However, at their wedding there were so many people involved with the last name Peifer that the ushers became confused and quit trying to seat people on any particular side! She even said that when they bought their marriage license the clerk thought they must be getting remarried when he saw she had previously been Lori Peifer. Too funny!
Please pray for Elvin if he comes to your mind. He's in for some rough days of recovery. Lori will be driving back to Michigan tomorrow and Scott will fly home on Thurday.

I did not know that there was so much pain involved in recovery from heart surgery. I will definitely be praying for Elvin today.

How great that you got to spend time with Lori and Scott. I'm a little jealous! Thanks for keeping us updated on Elvin. He is in our prayers.

When Adam and Suzanne got married and went to get their license, eyebrows were raised when they said that Adam and Suzanne's mothers BOTH had the maiden name of Townsend! They assured them that they were no relations whatsoever!
Will continue to pray for Elvin.
I will certain pray for Elvin as I pray for our friend, Jack, 6 by-passes!!! I though Jack's 4 were a lot. It really is amazing what they can do medically these days.
Father God I lift up Elvin to you. I ask for good care and attention from all the medical staff around him in helping with his healing. I ask for a special healing and return to health. I pray for his extended family at this time. We thank you that we can bring others to your throne room for their healing. In my Saviors precious, precious name I pray. Amen

It is amazing what they can do this day and time. He'll be in pain for a while and I'm NOT discounting that, but he will be in fabulous shape when he heals...God is good!
