D. James Kennedy

I heard on the news last evening that D. James Kennedy, pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, died. I have heard his sermons many times on radio and TV, but the main thing I think of when I hear his name is Evangelism Explosion, a course which he started. When Dick and I were newlyweds there was a man in our congregation who was a very enthusiastic evangelist. He held classes to teach the principles of Kennedy's Evangelism Explosion, and Dick and I got involved right away. We often went door to door with him, and we also got very involved in discipling a young couple who were new believers. How well I remember the classic question, "If you were to die tonight and God would ask you 'Why should I let you into heaven,' what would your answer be?" How many folks would say that they'd tried to do their best, or they tried to obey the ten commandments, etc! But the wonderful truth is that ONLY the blood of Jesus Christ covering our sin is the reason we will be able to enter Heaven when that time comes. It's all about HIM and the terrible price He paid for our FREE salvation! D. James Kennedy helped many thousands of people to clearly understand that and to be able to share it with others. I'm sure God said, "Well done, good and faithful servant" when he met the Lord face to face yesterday.

WOW. I've heard him on the radio before too, but I didn't know he had died. Funny how I've heard LOTS about Pavarotti's death, but not D James Kennedy. Wonder what's up with that? Like you, I am sure he had a wonderful greeting! That's humbling to think about, isn't it?

Oh, I'm so sad to here of D. Jame Kennedy's death. I used to listen to him on the radio every day as I drove into work. He always had great insight and he never failed to teach me something.

However, we know that he's now on the street of gold. Amen.

Thanks for the great post! I still listen to D. James Kennedy everyday. I have an idea that his voice will continue on even after his death. His message will always be relevant.

I, too have watched him on TV many times. Especially on Sunday mornings when I was unable to be in my church. I'm sure he is singing with the angels right now.
And you're so right about THAT question. I've used that before too. And the answer for me is..,"He shouldn't...I don't deserve it...it's only because of His mercy and grace that I will live with Him one day! Thank you, God!"

Daniel and I were part of a training class, too, back in the mid '70's and it was so exciting to be a part of something so eternally important. My brother, who really does have the gift of evangelism, uses that question often when he is talking to people -- with extremely interesting results. It clarifies things for the one asking the question, and it makes a person who may not otherwise consider such a question, THINK!!! I hadn't heard that Dr. Kennedy had died. Thanks for the info.
