My day started out with icy roads on the way to school. All the way there Destiny complained that her belly hurts. Shortly after we arrived she threw up her breakfast of scrambled eggs all over the staff room floor. (Thankfully we now have vinyl instead of carpet in that room!) She decided she felt much better and wanted to go to her kindergarten class. Meanwhile I was left with the mess to clean up. Of all days I was dressed for my uncle Bob's funeral, and my first class was scheduled to start earlier than normal since I was trying to squeeze all my classes in before I left for the funeral. As you can imagine, I was not a very happy camper. One dear teacher comforted my by saying, "Well, your day can only get better!"
It did. I went to Uncle Bob's funeral and burial which was followed by a meal at Kreiders Restaurant. At one point things got pretty interesting. After the burial we needed to get out of the very snowy, icy cemetery. My sisters Doris and Mary Ellen and I were riding along in the back seat of my dad's car. The cemetery is hilly and the paved lanes through it were snow and slush covered. We watched car after car go right up that hill, but would you believe Dad's car just spun and spun half way up the hill? My dad is the type that thinks anything worth doing is worth doing with all your might, and that's exactly how he tackled that hill. He would back down, and ram back up that hill with a vengeance, always to no avail. Mary Ellen finally called nephew Richard Witmer to come with his tow truck. Then we saw a funeral director come down the hill toward us. He yelled, "The girls will have to get out of the back seat." Well!! We thought our weight was helping! So we obediently got out, plus he convinced Dad that he did not have to go at it at top speed, and sure enough, he made it up that hill! (And we girls walked up, thank you very much!)
Below are pictures that will probably mean little to most of my readers. But I wanted to post and label each one, first of all for Uncle Bob's granddaughter Kimmie who is serving in Okinawa. I know she will be checking this blog for pictures. I know there will be other relatives and my siblings who live out-of-state who will be interested in the names and faces on these pictures. For those of you who want to see people up close, click on the pictures to make them much larger and clearer.
My dad said in his part of the service today that people always knew when Bob was around because of his loud voice. I just bet Heaven knows he's around too - he's probably the loudest one there, the life of the party!!

I laughed OUT LOUD when I read that ya'll had to get out of the back seat! Glad your Dad finally made it up the hill, though.
Sorry it was such a rough day. It looked like a very moving funeral though...they always are when they are military.
That was a great picture of you too!
