Yesterday afternoon Dick took Destiny swimming. I had just ordered two room-darkening mini-blinds from the Pennys catalog online. After Dick and Destiny left, I decided to take advantage of my rare "childless" state and go pick up prints I had ordered from Savemart. While on the road I thought, "I wonder if Penneys has the mini-blinds in stock that I just ordered online?" So after Savemart I headed to Penneys. The sales lady told me they don't carry the room-darkening blinds in the store, but she could order them from the catalog for me. I told her I actually just ordered them myself. She said, "Oh, you should always come to the store to make your catalog orders. It saves you the cost of shipping and handling." I said, "Really? I wonder if I could cancel my order and then order them here without the shipping cost?" She said, "Oh, I don't think you can do that." I walked away from the that department and thought, "Well, why can't I?" I headed straight to the catalog department and asked if I could cancel an order I had just made online. She said I certainly could, and she took care of it. When she asked me the reason, I said, "Because I found a deal I like better here in the store." Then I headed back to the drapery department and proceeded to order my mini-blinds again, this time without the shipping cost. When I told Dick what I had done, he said, "Cheap Mennonite." Oh well, every little $5.95 helps, right??!!
Last evening we went to visit my parents. My sister Mary Ellen was there too, and so was my uncle John Bender and his "friend". I was so mad at myself for forgetting my camera, because I'm sure my siblings would love to have a picture. Sorry! John Bender was my aunt Jean's husband. Jean was my dad's youngest sister, and yes, I was named for her. Last March (2005) Aunt Jean died at the age of 64. She had had a long history of heart and kidney issues and she died after a surgery to replace a heart valve. She was a lovely, vivacious lady and it was such a loss for John and their three beautiful young adult married daughters and all their grandchildren. Someone at John's church introduced him to a woman from Viginia whose husband passed away in 2001 (actually on 9/12/01 - can you imagine that - the day after 9/11?) So they have been getting to know each other, and last evening he brought her to meet my parents. The most striking thing about them is that both of their first marriages took place on exactly the same day - August 12, 1967!! Isn't that bizarre?
Well, I gotta get to work. I have a window project I'm going to work on this week.

To my "Cheap Mennonite" friend! Now you can put that money toward a D50. Tell Dick they can be bought at Lititz Photo Corner.
Yesterday, I had a comment all written, got a call from my son, had to go to his college loan account, didn't have time to check over it and LOST IT. So sad. Anyhow, I can't remember all that I said, but I think I said that "Cheap Mennonite" should be taken as a compliment in these days. Tell Dick that the money you saved goes to the electric bill, the gasoline bill, the A/C bill or the grocery bill. And that "cheap" doesn't apply to any of the above. And you know what, Jeanie girl? It least of all applies to your heart and Dick's heart and the way you relate to people you love. In case you didn't know, I surely do love you! (Cheap Menno or not!)
Rest assured - Dick was teasing me, and he doesn't mind my attempts at "cheapness" one bit!!
So-lets play the Mennonite game---John is your Uncle-In-Law, and his father, Alvin, is my husband's (Markel)first cousin! I know John (and Jean) well, and John came and sat at the same table we were sitting at when we were at a wedding a month ago.
